Sleeping rough

A bright sun had risen over the big city but it was still biting cold. Shannon was exhausted.
She started unwillingly getting dressed. She was already wearing two woolen sweaters, one on the top of the other, and a faux fur coat, which she had found in the trash a week earlier. She put on her dirty knit cap and then continued by brushing her teeth. She rinsed her mouth out with cheap alcohol, as she had run out of water.
Finally, Shannon was ready. Living on the streets for years, she knew that women alone could only sleep during the day, otherwise they would get attacked.
She laid down on the hard pavement and instantly fell into a troubled sleep.
